“Never have I ever purchased through a marketplace.” Jeez, we aren’t even aware of what a shockingly infrequent statement this is nowadays. Because, did you know that the share of shoppers who don’t use marketplaces is as little as 3%?

Slayed? We’ve just found this out in the DHL report on eCommerce trends 2024. The company did an enormous job surveying 12,000 shoppers from 24 countries to get us the delicious takeaways on what customers expected from online retailers this year.

Here’s another beauty part. 

As much as 52% of customers sometimes use retailer apps, fancy that! Naturally, this helps people hunt exclusive offers. But beyond this, according to the DHL findings, they enjoy the retailer apps for these:

  • Convenient shopping and digital payment process
  • Easy navigation and personalized experience factoring in browsing behavior

32% of customers aged up to 45 are frustrated by the absence of customer reviews.

Especially with the Federal Trade Commission’s rule banning fake reviews from this year on, online businesses must be up to their eyeballs struggling to get enough unique testimonials.

Voice assistants are the new black

630% growth in the total value of purchase transactions handled by smart home or voice assistants is expected between 2020 and 2025, globally.

Again, hurry up to align your marketplaces with the accessibility regulations, we’ve reminded you of the penalty risks recently.

Discounts are the forever benefit

After all this time? Always. Unsurprisingly, reduced prices keep being the major benefit for a whopping 85% of customers, with 68% being fans of spending rewards.

Creating customer accounts becomes hip

Pleasingly, 70% of online shoppers opt to have accounts with retailers.

This way they can:

  • Choose to save payment details, thus checking out much faster during return purchases
  • Track their orders and review order history
  • Access exclusive loyalty schemes and discounts
