What would you do if your long-established manufacturing business outgrew your sales and distribution platform? Not overnight, you saw it coming: thousands of retail partners, tens of countries within the network. Plus, a sophisticated B2B workflow that no existing vendor seems to be capable of fully sustaining.

Your first steps? Here’s how our client pulled it off.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

Massive distribution lacking a proper retailer tech infrastructure

The client’s distribution strategy relies on a network of selected retailers rather than branded stores. Their existing Salesforce Commerce Cloud-based platform was unable to support the international retail workflows critical for this approach, particularly as their community rapidly expanded to thousands of representatives across dozens of countries. To address this, a robust B2B commerce ecosystem was deemed necessary.

CLIENT’S OBJECTIVES

To gain a clear vision of the potential tech stack alternatives and make a surefire vendor choice, the client has reached out for an unbiased outside perspective.

By requesting a tech architecture design and integration strategy consulting, they expected to nail the following objectives:

  • Validate the technology requirements for the planned B2B eCommerce portal
  • Select an efficient tech stack, from eCommerce platform to integration tools, and beyond
  • Roadmap the future solution’s architecture in line with their business specifics
  • Develop a seamless migration strategy
  • Optimize the TCO and maintenance budget

VENDOR COMPETITION

Amitech Group was chosen as a potential service provider due to our strong track record in B2B eCommerce, marketplace integration, and UI/UX transformation. The client decided to initiate the engagement with a tech strategy consulting request, acknowledging our expertise in R&D and project discovery.

CHALLENGE

Existing tech limitations, complex B2B platform choice

Rigid custom-built tech

The client’s B2C-focused marketplace was unable to sustain seller growth and thus failed to serve as a seamless operational platform for multivendor retail processes.

Costly & fragmented tech offerings

While the legacy solution began draining their support budget, none of the existing eCommerce platform alternatives appeared to fully meet the B2B functionality requirements critical to the client’s business workflows, necessitating expensive external integrations.

Nuanced requirements around shifting to the B2B focus

  • Enable an intuitive retailer onboarding and management process
  • Establish a role-based user hierarchy and access control
  • Implement customer-specific pricing and promo plans
  • Guarantee real-time or batch ERP order sync
  • Ensure carrier tracking

SOLUTION ROADMAP

High-level architecture & BigCommerce integration scenarios

Beyond assessing the client’s technical specifications for the upcoming B2B commerce portal, the team crafted a high-level architecture plan that outlined the essential stack to enable seamless integration and operational workflows for a cohesive, multivendor environment.
To provide several alternative integration options for the client to avoid vendor lock-in, Amitech Group also showcased four integration approaches, detailing the implementation scope, scenario complexity, and the specifics of infrastructure maintenance and updates.

“The team suggested efficient integration routes that enabled fast time-to-market and minimized TCO. To simplify tech support, we also recommended futureproof stacks, from custom integration solutions to proprietary prebuilt SaaS, APIs, and firsthand frameworks.”

Results

“Amitech Group assisted the client in evaluating the pros and cons of various integration paths, facilitating decision-making, and guiding their selection of an eCommerce platform vendor.

The initial project discovery, supported by a detailed tech architecture, validated the project feasibility and execution complexity, unlocking new vendor and service opportunities.”
